Hello, beautiful readers! And welcome to my blog. In this post, I will be reviewing the book Fourth Wing by Rebecca Yaross which you probably have heard about or even read since it has all the hype on social media. But if you haven’t then congratulations on keeping yourself under the radar.
So, if you are interested in reading this book but feel kind of hesitant or maybe you want to know how other people felt about the book, then look no further. This will be a spoiler-free review for those of you wondering. I will however lightly discuss topics such as what I thought about characters, relationships, plot, and writing since those are the things that interest me. Let’s begin!
Table Of Contents:
Fourth Wing by Rebecca Yarros
“Twenty-year-old Violet Sorrengail was supposed to enter the Scribe Quadrant, living a quiet life among books and history. Now, the commanding general—also known as her tough-as-talons mother—has ordered Violet to join the hundreds of candidates striving to become the elite of Navarre: dragon riders. But when you’re smaller than everyone else and your body is brittle, death is only a heartbeat away…because dragons don’t bond to “fragile” humans. They incinerate them. With fewer dragons willing to bond than cadets, most would kill Violet to better their own chances of success. The rest would kill her just for being her mother’s daughter—like Xaden Riorson, the most powerful and ruthless wingleader in the Riders Quadrant. She’ll need every edge her wits can give her just to see the next sunrise. Yet, with every day that passes, the war outside grows more deadly, the kingdom’s protective wards are failing, and the death toll continues to rise. Even worse, Violet begins to suspect leadership is hiding a terrible secret. Friends, enemies, lovers. Everyone at Basgiath War College has an agenda—because once you enter, there are only two ways out: graduate or die.“

Review
I actually picked up this book a while back, and have even read it multiple times. So to say the least I thoroughly enjoyed Fourth Wing. But, that does not mean that the book was flawless, and what I might like about the Fourth Wing some of you might not.
The story
For a super quick summary, Fourth Wing follows a girl named Violet; who is starting a dangerous school where you are taught how to become a dragon rider. In the school, you are constantly met with challenges and death. To know more about the world itself check out the synopsis or even better read the book.
So, what I truly loved about the book was the easiness of it. It was not overly complex or complicated which made it an easy read where you are just flying through the pages. There was not a part where I felt as if I had to force myself to continue reading because I was confused or just bored, which in my opinion is the case with many longer fantasy books (not that these books obviously have great parts to and probably better word building for example).
The language in the book was quite simple and made it kind of relaxing to read; not that the story itself ever let me breathe. However, I also noticed that the author had a tendency to tell us rather than create a scene to show us. Which is not something I prefer. Though, because the book spans over a longer time this obviously has to be the case sometimes. But other times it felt kind of unnecessary and I just really loved seeing the characters in action, so I would have loved to see more of that.
Lastly, I thought the storytelling was engaging and entertaining.
Characters and relationships
I adore our main character Violet due to her intelligence however sometimes I could feel it was maybe a bit unreasonable. But still, it made it fun reading about someone who isn’t completely dumb and actually had a clue about what was going on.
The love interest was also someone I enjoyed very much, and he has some kind of shadow talent if that is your thing (the girls that get it get it). Their romance was also really cute; in an I’m supposed to hate you but don’t kind of way. I also really appreciated the conversations in the book and that there were quite a lot of them and not too much inner monolog. The other characters were also so fun to read about and very much likable.
The friendships in the book were also something that I thought stuck out. I loved the way they talked to each other. It was almost cinematic in a way. We all have seen the movies or read books about those friendships. The friendships that make you giddy, and happy every single time you read about them.
Fourth Wing created a feeling of belonging and home through the different bonds in the book.
In total…
I would not say that the book is an outstanding, never-before-before performance. However, Fourth Wing has all of the things I love from different books combined in one. All in all, I think it is a really good book with amazing characters and a compelling and thrilling story.
I truly recommend Fourt Wing especially if you recently started your reading journey or are in a reading slump. As said before I would not have read the book multiple times if I did not absolutely love it. If you could see my tbr you would understand the problem of me reading the same book over and over.
But if it doesn’t feel like your type of book, then I hope you find a read soon. But I will say there is a reason why half of my word count in this post consists of the phrase ‘really good’ or any variation of it.
Now on to the most important reason I wrote this review. Soon the next book in the series will be released: Iron Flame. And to say I am excited would be the biggest understatement. It feels as if I have waited a whole lifetime for this book, but soon it is here. On November 7th the only thing I will be doing is drinking my tea and absolutely eating up Iron Flame. Hope the review helped!
Be sure to comment what you thought of ‘Fourth Wing‘ and if you are excited for ‘Iron Flame‘!?
